Does Calorie Counting Work? Yes, And Here’s Why

Does calorie counting work? The short answer is yes, but it is important that you do it regularly. If you don’t, then you won’t experience the benefits of doing it. With that said, here are three reasons why calorie counting works.

1. Hold Yourself Accountable- Counting calories requires you to keep track of what you are eating and how many calories you’re taking in. This means you will be able to hold yourself accountable. For example, if you’re counting calories because you want to lose weight, then you will know if your eating habits are helping you or working against you. The same goes if you’re counting calories to gain weight, muscle or if you’re just eating for energy.

2. Learn What Works And What Doesn’t- Another reason why counting calories works is that you’ll learn what is working and what isn’t working. You’ll be able to review the information you recorded later in the week or the month, and then you’ll have a better of what you should stop doing and what you should keep doing. After reviewing the information, you might find that you don’t need to do anything at all.

A good example of this is if you keep eating specific foods and you’re consuming 2,000 calories per day and your goal is to maintain your weight. On a weekly or monthly basis, you can look back at the number of calories you’ve consumed and whether or not you have been able to maintain your weight. This type of information is good to know.

3. Easily Make Tweaks- Another reason counting calories work is because it allows you to easily make tweaks. For example, you might be eating one food that is very high in calories and it might be that one food that is hampering your efforts. By counting calories, you can make tweaks and get rid of the foods you think are hampering your results or you can add food. It is much easier to make tweaks when you record information, such as keeping track of calories and food that you’re eating.

Now you know that calorie counting works. It does work because it is a way to hold yourself accountable. It helps you to learn what is working and what isn’t.  You can easily make tweaks to your diet when you know the number of calories you’re consuming and where those calories are coming from. If you are not counting calories, then you should start doing it soon.
